To date, several candidates have been selected and sent to the UK to do post graduate work in the fields of Public Health, English Literature, Islamic Art, Nursing, Environment and Physics. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction for the Scholarship Association that the Schimmel scholars have been doing exceedingly well and achieving laurels in their respective fields. To name only a few, the Schimmel Scholar of 1996, Jakie Dias, was given the Outstanding Teacher Award 2004 at the Aga Khan University School of Nursing; Shazia Ali, the Scholar of 2001 conducted cutting edge research at Cranfield University, UK which has practical applications for safety mechanisms in the Nuclear Industry as well as for increasing productivity in the Oil & Gas Industry; Zahra Mahmood, the Scholar of 2003, was the Best Student of the Year at Eastman Dental College, London University; Maleeha Zia Khan, the Scholar of 2005 is now actively involved in the area of women’s rights and had made presentations to the Parliament regarding the Domestic Violence Bill; Asma Amanat, who did her MSC in Mathematics Education secured a distinction and her work was rated by her supervisors as being of doctorate level; Amina Malik the Scholar of 2007 who did her Masters in Aerospace Vehicle Design at Cranfield University was nominated as best student in her class. |
